Kathleen Shaffner
Kathleen "Kat" Shaffner's father, Webster McHenry taught himself the piano & painted in his spare time which inspired my mother to paint & draw & passed it down to me. I completed my BFA from SIU-C in Dec.'75 where I concentrated on drawing & painting & in my senior year delightfully discovered clay. I had the great privilege to work under the guidance of Larry Bernstein, Patrick Beatudier, Lee Littlefield, Phil Rice, Joel Feldman, Harris Dellar & Herb Fink. I am so blessed to have my own studio space in the milkhouse in the old barn at our house. It's a walk right down the driveway to my place to experiment & explore to my heart's content. Currently I have been exploring the art of allowing. I begin with raw unstretched canvas on a flat surface or pinned to the wall. I choose a color, a brush, a sponge, pour or splash, whatever is fun & exciting. I like to work from every angle continuing to turn the canvas to work in each direction. I lightheartedly call these works "4 in one" paintings, but as you can see some of these paintings conceive their own life with real themes & images. I am very thrilled to have several paintings on display at the Southern Exposure Gallery in Lombard,Illinois & at Insync Mind/Body Therapy Center in Carbondale. Go check it out. All of these works are for sale. Also for your viewing pleasure are 6 paintings on display at the First Southern Bank lobby at 2471 W. Main St. in Carbondale. Thanks for this opportunity to share my passion with you!
